U.S. Citizenship Test
One workspace to pass the U.S. naturalization test — civics flashcards, full practice exams, and English reading & writing prep. It covers both tests now in use: the 2008 test (100 questions) and the 2025 test (128 questions). Which one you take depends on when you filed — start with the box below.
Which test do I take?
check this firstThere are two tests in use right now, and which one you take is set by your Form N-400 filing date — not your interview date. Find your filing date on your USCIS receipt, then pick your track:
You filed Form N-400 BEFORE Oct 20, 2025
100 questions · up to 10 asked · 6 correct to pass (60%)
You filed Form N-400 ON or AFTER Oct 20, 2025
128 questions · up to 20 asked · 12 correct to pass (60%)
Not sure? Confirm on the official USCIS “Check for Test Updates” page. This policy has changed before and is still being litigated — re-verify before your interview.
What this covers — and what you must verify
please read- ✓Everything here works with no login and no AI — the official questions, the English practice sentences, and the practice exams are all fixed study content. Nothing to pay for, nothing to set up.
- !Some answers change and can't be memorized from us. The current President, Vice President, Speaker, and Chief Justice — and your own state's senators, representative, governor, and capital — are marked on the cards. We show the value “as of 2026,” but you must give whoever holds the office at your interview. Always confirm at uscis.gov/citizenship/testupdates.
- Optional AI help is “bring your own key” (BYOK). If you add your own AI key in Settings, you unlock extras like the per-card “Explain this” helper. Your key stays in your browser and talks straight to the AI provider — it never touches our servers, so there's no cost to us and no shared quota. (On the roadmap: generate unlimited fresh reading/writing practice sentences from the official vocabulary, and auto-look-up your state's officials — both AI-assisted, both BYOK.)
- The real civics test is oral — an officer asks the questions aloud and you answer out loud. Our practice exams are multiple-choice (a graded recall aid at the real pass bar); use the flashcard decks to practice saying answers out loud, the way test day actually works.

Practice exams
live · graded at the real pass barThe English test — three parts
both tracksBesides civics, you take an English test during the same interview (unless you qualify for an age/residence exemption — see resources). It has three parts:
- •Speaking — the officer judges your spoken English from your normal interview answers. No separate script.
- •Reading — read 1 of 3 sentences correctly. The sentences aren't published, but they only use words from the official reading vocabulary — practice with the Reading deck.
- •Writing — write 1 of 3 dictated sentences correctly. Same idea — built from the writing vocabulary; practice with the Writing deck.

A study routine
- 1.Confirm which test you take (filing-date box above), then drill that track's four decks daily — say the answer out loud before revealing. ~15 min.
- 2.Once a deck feels solid, sit the practice exam; review every miss with its explanation and topic breakdown.
- 3.Practice the English reading & writing decks out loud and on paper — have someone dictate the writing sentences.
- 4.Every week, refresh the date-sensitive answers (President, VP, Speaker, Chief Justice, your state's officials) against uscis.gov — these are the most common avoidable misses.
