The techniques - and where you do each one
Retrieval practice
Pulling an answer from memory strengthens it far more than rereading. The single highest-leverage thing you can do.

Mixing related topics in one session - instead of blocking one at a time - trains you to tell them apart and pick the right one. It feels harder and it sticks better.

Explaining an idea in your own words - and generating the answer before you see it - builds far more durable understanding than rereading someone else's words.

Bjork's principle: the conditions that make studying feel harder and slower often make the learning stronger. Easy and fluent usually means you aren't learning much.

Knowing what you actually know. Familiarity is not mastery, and confidence is a poor guide unless it's calibrated against real performance.

The popular habits research rates low-utility - rereading, highlighting, cramming, chasing 'learning styles'. They feel effective because they build fluency, not recall.
